POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Delivers excellent service to all members, guests, and program participants. Response to member and guest needs promotes memberships and programs and creates a welcoming environment. The Building Supervisor (in the absence of any other ranking director or coordinator) will be responsible for the overall supervision of the YMCA building and grounds. This person must supervise members, guests, staff, and volunteers to ensure that everyone follows the safety standards and policies of the YMCA. The Building Supervisor is also in charge of cleaning the building or helping the custodian if available. Free household membership is included. Must be available nights and weekends.

The custodian is responsible for cleaning and sanitizing areas, including mopping, dusting, and trash removal.   • Maintains active surveillance of the pool area.
  • Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures, and the “safe-in-six” model. Completes related reports as required.
  • Maintains effective, positive relationships with the members, participants and other staff.
  • Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area. Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state Health Department code.

The Day Camp Counselor position at the Duneland Family YMCA intentionally fosters a cause-centered culture that is welcoming, genuine, hopeful, nurturing, and determined while providing direct supervision of a group of children in a seasonal day camp. Creating positive relationships with children, while building cooperative relationships with their families. Promoting and supporting the potential in all youth in programs through peer to peer connections as part of the overall camp experience.

  • Supervises a group of children in sight and sound.
  • Nurtures children through purposeful programming; plans activities that are intended to achieve program goals and outcomes, are culturally relevant, are developmentally appropriate, and are consistent with the Y’s values.
  • Creates a positive rapport and shared interest with all youth; models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
  • Provides opportunities for youth to lead, problem-solve, and make decisions and choices within the camp and provides daily opportunities for youth to reflect on and respond to their experiences.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent highly preferred.
  • Meets minimum age standards as established by law and/or the Y.
  • First Aid, Blood borne Pathogens, CPR, AED and Child Abuse prevention training prior to direct contact with children.
  • Fulfillment of state-specific hiring standards required prior to direct contact with children.
  • Previous experience working with children in a camp setting highly preferred.
  • Previous experience in one or more of the following areas preferred: outdoor activities, archery, song/music, skits, sports, aquatics, or recreational games.
  • Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate

program activities preferred. * Previous experience with diverse populations preferred. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds preferred.
